RUNNERS' CLUB OF GREATER CINCINNATI BOARD MEETING MINUTES
August 26, 2007
(at Swaim Park, Montgomery, before Annual Club Picnic)

Present: Tom Glasscock, Julia Glasscock, Todd Hofacre, Ed Hunter, Peter Wayte

Membership: We now have about 120 members. Todd may resend renewal postcards because he believes those he sent out recently were not delivered. He will check with the post office to see if the correct amount of postage had been applied to those postcards.

Newsletter: The next issue will come out in mid-September. The runner of the month will be Kim Noble, women's winner of the Lucky 7 Race July 7.

Scholarships: Mike Smith has given Ted Kluemper, of the Kicks-for-Kids Foundation, information about scholarship criteria the Club developed several years ago for scholarships we provided (with assistance from the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation) to local high school students. It is hoped that in the future, KFK will provide two scholarships, one each to a deserving male and a deserving female student. We suggested to KFK that the candidates be asked to write a brief essay describing a significant personal challenge that they overcame.

Social Events: We need a location in Clifton for a Happy Hour September 20. Arlin's Bar and Restaurant (307 Ludlow Ave.) and Fries Café (3247 Jefferson Ave.) are being considered. Todd plans to start a weekly group run in Burnet Woods, Clifton, beginning September 6. The distance will be 2 to 4 miles. All paces will be welcome.

2008 Flying Pig Marathon and RRCA Convention: Todd has been unable to contact Iris Bush, Executive Director of the Flying Pig Marathon, about how the Club could be involved with the Marathon. Iris did not respond to Todd's recent email to her.

Holiday Lights Run: Tentatively set for Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Tom will make arrangements with the Williams YMCA and O'Bryons Irish Pub (1998 Madison Rd., O'Bryonville).

Upcoming Races: (1) Enzweiler Multi-Miler 5K, the Drake Center, September 8, 2007, 9 a.m.: Todd will email Steve Prescott, race director, to see if the race needs any help from the Club. It is hoped that Kent Enzweiler will be invited to be the starter for the race.
(2). Anglewood English Park 5K, Burlington KY, November 3, 2007: We may certify the course and man the finish line. Todd will confirm with the race director. Tom pointed out that this date conflicts with high school cross country state finals in Ohio.
(3). Thanksgiving Day 10K, downtown, November 22, 2007: Todd will contact Julie Isphording after Labor Day to confirm that the Club will help provide clean-up after the race, as we have done previously.
(4). Valentines Day Race, 2 miles, NKU, February 10, 2008: Todd will discuss with Steve Kruse how responsibilities for the race will be shared between the Club and NKU.
(5). Leap Day Race 5K, proposed for Friday night, February 29, 2008: Todd is looking for a low-cost location (i.e., little or no police protection needed) with adequate lighting. A late afternoon time (e.g., 5:30 p.m.) may be considered in order to hold the race before dark.

Next Board Meeting: Thursday, October 4, 7:30 p.m., at Brueggers Bagel Bakery, 3317 Clifton Ave., Clifton (north of Good Samaritan Hospital), after the group run. NOTE CHANGE IN TIME AND LOCATION.

Respectfully submitted,
Ed Hunter, Secretary
